Next year, 2015, sees the 50th anniversary of the original Australian Tunnel Rats’ arrival in Vietnam, one year after our troops were withdrawn from active duty in Afghanistan.

Although on the face of it these two conflicts, separated by half a century, could scarcely be more different, for Sappers it has been very familiar territory.

The story will employ the personal recollections of serving and recently returned Sappers (from all ranks and who had differing sapper tasks) to show how, in this most modern of wars, the skills acquired by Sappers have stood our troops in good stead.

The book will use extensive and detailed interviews with a number of Sappers who served in Afghanistan. If you are interested in being interviewed for this book and telling your story then contact Colonel Sandy Macgregor through his email link here ( Email Sandy MacGregor )
or contact the RAE Foundation for more information.
